Meditation Groups in San Francisco
There are so many places to practice meditation in the San Francisco Bay Area it can feel overwhelming to choose and just get started.
Wednesday Nights
Please join Augusta Hopkins at San Francisco Spiritual Friends Sangha where she can often be found leading the group.
SF Sangha – meets Wednesday nights 7-9pm for meditation in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. The general format for the weekly meditation gathering is 20 minutes of sitting meditation followed by 20 minutes of walking meditation and then another 20 minutes of sitting meditation. In the second hour there is a Dharma talk, often a reading from one of Thich Nhat Hanh’s books, sometimes a lay member of the Order of Interbeing gives an actual Dharma talk or leads an activity. Then we practice deep listening and sharing from the heart what’s alive in the present moment.
Join us any Wednesday from 7-9 (6:45 arrival) at Sanchez + Clipper at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1270 Sanchez St, San Francisco, CA 94114 (enter on Clipper)
More
Here’s a list of more San Francisco meditation groups that I can personally recommend. These are all in the Insight Tradition (mostly the teachers are from Spirit Rock) and generally meet from 7-9. See their individual websites for more detailed information.
The standard structure is 30-40, maybe 45 minutes of sitting followed by a short break and a talk by the teacher. Great teachings, great communities, great opportunities to practice!
